The goal of the seminar is to provide a compact overview on the current topics of bachelor, master and PhD studies both at the FLLL and the SCCH, while giving students an opportunity to present their work and to practice presenting in English. mvControl (IKT of the Future)

Generating process feedback from heterogeneous data sources in quality control

The goal of this three-years project under the scope of "IKT of the Future" funding line by FFG is to develop machine learning methods based on system identification, time-series models, causal relations and classifiers that merge all the heterogeneous data sources to automatically determine potential cause(s) for defects.
Additionally, changes in the process can be detected and monitored, before they actually
cause defects. This requires research on the following topics:

TransLearn (Strategic Research Project)

Transfer learning with soft computing models for regression problems.

The basic task is in this strategic research project in collaboration with SCCH is to transfer knowledge from one or a number of original source tasks to one or more similar target tasks with little training data available for each, while achieving robust and consistent models. Thereby, the following related variants for transfer and representation learning should be considered throughout the project:

Mathematik macht Computer klüger

Viele Dinge, die uns umgeben – Smartphones, Autos, Roboter – können unsere Schrift, unsere Sprache oder unser Verhalten erkennen und sich daran anpassen. Sie sammeln Daten und finden Zusammenhänge, das heißt sie lernen. Doch was bedeutet es eigentlich, wenn Maschinen "lernen"? Funktioniert dieses Lernen so ähnlich wie in unserem Gehirn? Was können Maschinen lernen und wo bleiben sie dumm?
 
Der Workshop mit 18 Kindern von neun bis vierzehn Jahren war ein voller Erfolg!
Wir haben für diesen Workshop selbst entwickelte freie Software verwendet.

Abstract:
Particle filters (PF) have been established as the de facto state-of-the-art in failure prognosis,
and particularly in the representation of the uncertainty that is associated to long-term
predictions. This talk explores some of the most important aspects associated to the problem
of failure prognosis, with special emphasis on the utilization of Particle Filter (PF) algorithms
for uncertainty representation, and outer feedback correction loops for uncertainty
management in prediction. Application examples will include problems associated to battery
management systems.
